Rihab Khalifa is the Vice Dean for the College of Business and Economics, the founding Director of the Emirates Institute for Learning Outcomes Assessment (EILOA), and a Professor of Accounting at United Arab Emirates University’s (UAEU). Previously she held positions at Manchester Business School, the London School of Economics, and Warwick Business School, UK. She holds a Master of Accounting and Management Science degree from the University of Southampton, a PhD in Accounting from the University of Manchester, and obtained subsequently an MA in Academic and Professional Practice in Education from the University of Warwick. She is also the Chair of the Assurance of Learning and Assessment for the College of Business and Economics (the first to be accredited in the region). In the latter role she is coordinating the assessment of student learning outcomes across four departments (Accounting, Business Administration, Economics and Finance, and Statistics) and nine programs at the bachelor, master, and doctorate levels. These programs have been accredited by multiple bodies, namely, AACSB (separately for Business and Accounting), WASC, and under the UAE’s National Qualifications Framework. Additionally, Rihab holds membership of the University Outcome Assessment Committee, which overseas assessment activities for more than 130 university programs, the accreditation committee at her College, and was part of the University committee for WASC accreditation. At the College of Business and Economics, Rihab has led a team to review and rebuild the outcome assessment infrastructure and establish solid institutional processes for student learning in all the College programs. Her collective efforts with the Accounting Department’s accreditation team resulted in her Department obtaining the AACSB accounting accreditation for the first time in 2013. Regionally, she has given multiple presentations on assurance of learning and assessment-related topics and has helped some business schools build to refine their assessment systems. Her primary areas of research interests include assessment of student learning, institutional processes of accreditation, doctoral education, professional service firms, auditing, corporate governance, gender, and women studies. She is a member of the editorial boards of Research in Accounting in Emerging Economies and The Journal of Accounting in Emerging Economies (both Emerald). She has published in leading accounting journals, including Accounting Organizations and Society, Accounting Auditing and Accountability Journal, Critical Perspectives on Accounting, the European Accounting Review, and Qualitative Research in Accounting and Management.
