Jönköping International Business School, Jönköping University

Jönköping International Business School (JIBS) is one of the four academic schools of Jönköping University, a foundation-based university established in 1994. Unlike most Swedish universities, which are state-owned, the university operates as a private foundation while remaining fully integrated into the national higher education system and regulated by the Swedish Higher Education Act and the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance. JIBS operates as a limited company within this structure and delivers education and research in accordance with national quality assurance requirements.

Founded to support the highly entrepreneurial Småland–Jönköping region, JIBS combines strong regional engagement with a global outlook. The school maintains close ties with business and society, ensuring that education is relevant and practice-oriented. Teaching integrates theory with experiential learning, where students work in teams, solve real-world business challenges, and interact with companies and organisations.

JIBS offers Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD programmes, as well as single-subject courses and lifelong learning opportunities. Most courses are taught in English, except for a few focusing on Swedish law and accounting standards. Approximately half of the student body and faculty come from outside Sweden, creating a highly international learning environment with students representing many countries.

Research and education at JIBS focus particularly on entrepreneurship, ownership, family business, business renewal, and spatial economics. The school holds triple accreditation from AACSB, EQUIS, and AMBA, and is recognised in international rankings such as the QS World University Rankings and the Financial Times rankings, reflecting its commitment to global excellence in business education and research.
