Indian Institute of Management Calcutta
The Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta was established as the first national Institute in November 1961 for Post-Graduate studies and Research in Management by the Government of India in in collaboration with Alfred P. Sloan School of Management (MIT), the Government of West Bengal, The Ford Foundation and Indian industry. It is triple accredited Institute (AMBA, AACSB and EQUIS) and exclusive Indian partner of CEMS. In 2019, the Institute has been reaccredited by AMBA & EQUIS. The Indian Parliament has recently passed ‘Indian Institute of Management Act 2017’ which came into effect from 31st January 2018. With the passing of the IIM Act 2017 the Institute can now grant degrees. The Act ensures that students completing a two-year post-graduate programme’ are awarded the MBA or MiM and those completing the Fellow (Doctoral) Programme) be awarded a Ph.D. Before this act IIM Calcutta could not grant degrees, either MBA/MiM or a Ph.D., earlier under Indian law since it was not governed by an Act of Parliament. The MBA Programme which is a full time, two year residential programme has been consistently ranked by Financial Times among the Top 20.
