Thomas Cleff
Thomas Cleff is dean of the Business School at Pforzheim University, where he has served since 2014, and has been a professor of quantitative methods for business and economics since 2000. He brings deep and sustained expertise in business education quality assurance, international accreditation, and strategic academic leadership, combining scholarly rigor with extensive administrative experience.
His academic background—holding degrees from Pantheon-Sorbonne University (France) and the University of Wuppertal (Germany)—reflects a strong international foundation that informs his global perspective on business education. He is also a board member of the Network of International Business and Economics Schools and served as its secretary general from 2019 to 2023, and he continues to contribute as a member of several international academic advisory boards.
Cleff has demonstrated significant and sustained leadership within AACSB and the broader global business education community. He served two three-year terms on the Initial Accreditation Committee (2016–23) and is currently in his third year as a member of the Continuous Improvement Review Committee. Through these roles, he has played a direct role in shaping accreditation decisions that influence schools worldwide and has developed a nuanced understanding of AACSB standards and processes across diverse institutional contexts, including initial accreditation, continuous improvement, and strategic alignment with AACSB’s guiding principles. In addition to his committee service, Cleff has been actively engaged as a peer review team member, participating in 26 accreditation visits and chairing 17 across the Americas and Europe, Middle East, and Africa regions.
