She has about 23 years’ experience in the provision of corporate governance, enterprise risk management, internal audit and regulatory compliance services. She has successfully led a number of transformational large-scale projects, in major national corporates and multinational organisations across diverse sectors, working with them to optimize their risks while minimizing losses through the establishment of bespoke and effective governance, risk and audit functions.

Kim Ansell is a senior advisor for Advance HE. She has worked across higher and professional education providing support to facilitate change, strategic thinking, planning and performance improvement. Her work at Advance HE focusses predominantly on the interface between senior leaders and Boards, reviewing and helping shape future direction, facilitating holistic working, governance effectiveness, improving stakeholder engagement and embedding new practices. She has recently led the Advance HE membership themed month on the topic of Transforming Organisations from student to board.

Jill Atkins holds a Chair in Financial Management at Sheffield University Management School and is also a visiting professor at the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa.

Atkins chairs the British Accounting & Finance Association’s Special Interest Group on Corporate Governance and enjoys organising conferences which bring together governance specialists from the academia, corporate and investor communities. She has recently co-edited a book on The Business of Bees: An Integrated Approach to Bee Decline and Corporate Responsibility as part of a long-term project investigating the role of accounting and responsible investment in preserving biodiversity and addressing the impacts of climate change on business. Atkins' leading textbook, Corporate Governance and Accountability, is in its 4th edition.

Carolynn Chalmers is the Chief Executive Officer of Professor Mervyn King’s Good Governance Academy and manages Africa’s largest online governance social network. She assists leaders and leadership teams to understand and apply governance principles to create value for their organisations.

Chalmers is an Independent Committee Member of South Africa’s Government Employee Medical Scheme’s Audit Committee and Risk and Social and Ethics Committee, Director of the ISACA South Africa Chapter, Director of Candor Governance (Pty) Ltd, Chair of the South African Bureau of Standards Technical Committee for the Governance of Organizations and co-editor of the ISO standard, ISO 37000 - Governance of organizations – Guidance which is now in final draft.
Carolynn has extensive management, assurance and governance experience and has held various Chief Information Officer, Chief Technology Officer, Board, Board Committee and Executive roles for international, listed, private and public organisations.


Seamus Gillen

Founder and Director of Value Alpha Limited in the United Kingdom. Gillen works with boards and directors around the world. His particular focus is on board effectiveness and director effectiveness. He runs a Leadership Development Programme for company secretaries, and a LinkedIn discussion group on Building Better Boards. He is currently writing a book entitled Building Better Boards, due for publication in 2022. He writes and speaks extensively on governance issues and holds a degree in Business Studies and French (University of Leeds), and is an MBA (Henley Business School) and a CGI Fellow and prize-winner. Gillen was nominated and shortlisted for the Governance Champion of the Year 2020 Award at the ICSA Chartered Governance Institute Awards 2020.

A Chartered Secretary and Governance Professional, Kassis is an ethics and compliance specialist with extensive experience in globally listed companies across various industries in the private and public sectors. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Governance (ICSA) (UK), a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (MAICD), a Certified Compliance Officer and a Certified ISO31000 Risk Professional.

She holds a MSc in Corporate Governance from London South Bank University (UK). She is the founder and Executive Director of iAdvise – a private practice providing governance and board advisory services, corporate services and compliance. She previously held the positions of Head of Governance, Ethics & Compliance at ADNOC Logistics and services, and Group Company Secretary of DP World. A speaker and workshop facilitator at key events to include fundamentals of the Company Secretary role, corporate data management and subsidiary governance, corporate governance leadership, role of the board and measuring board effectiveness.


Thulisile MadonselaThulisile "Thuli" Madonsela

An advocate of the High Court of South Africa, Madonsela is the law trust chair in social justice and a law professor at the University of Stellenbosch, where she conducts and coordinates social justice research and teaches constitutional and administrative law. She is the founder of the Thuma Foundation, an independent democracy leadership and literacy public benefit organization and convener of the Social Justice M-Plan, a Marshall Plan-like initiative aimed at catalyzing progress toward ending poverty and reducing inequality by 2030, in line with the National Development Plan (NDP) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). 

A multiple award-winning legal professional with over 50 national and global awards, Madonsela has eight honorary doctor of laws degrees.

As dean of the College of Business, Law and Social Sciences, Omoteso provides executive leadership and is responsible for driving change, growth, and sustainability across the college and its component schools. In his second role as Pro Vice-Chancellor, Omoteso supports university-wide initiatives, programmes and projects, as well as helping to shape the university's policies and strategies and being the executive lead on the university’s access and participation efforts. He is also the Chair of the Centre for African Resources Research and Development.

Darius Palia, the Thomas A. Renyi endowed chair in banking at Reuters Business School, is an internationally renowned scholar in law and economics, banking, and corporate governance. He earned a PhD in Finance from the Stern School of Business at New York University, and he has been on the faculty of Princeton University, Columbia Business School, the University of Chicago, and UCLA.

Palia has published extensively in the top finance journals and economics journals. He is the Associate Editor of the J. of Financial and Quantitative Analysis. As Founding Director of the Financial Institutions Center, he organizes and participates in panels that include CEOs and other senior executives of financial institutions as well as senior regulators.

Khaya S Sithole, is a chartered accountant, academic, activist, writer and radio host. A graduate of UKZN and Oxford University, Sithole's work in the media arena includes political and economic commentary and corporate events facilitation. He is the radio host on Power FM, a Johannesburg-based radio station, and a regular contributor on politics and finance for eNCA, Open News and the SABC and writes columns for the Business Day, the Mail & Guardian and Fin24.

Sithole currently serves on the boards of Lefika La Phodiso (The Art Therapy Institute) where he serves as the board chairperson; the board of the Association of Black Securities and Investment Professionals (ABSIP), and the Financial Sector Transformation Council (FSTC) as board chairperson.
