Joseph DiAngelo has served as dean of the Erivan K. Haub School of Business at Saint Joseph’s University since 2000 and is a professor of management specializing in human resource management. Prior to this role, he served as dean at Widener University for 13 years. Over a distinguished career spanning nearly four decades as a dean and more than 30 years of involvement with AACSB, DiAngelo has been a central figure in shaping business education and accreditation globally, combining deep expertise with sustained leadership and service.

DiAngelo’s knowledge and expertise are reflected in his extensive global engagement with AACSB accreditation. He has served as a consultant and chair of peer review teams for more than 100 schools worldwide, providing guidance across diverse institutional and regional contexts. His longstanding service on AACSB’s Board of Directors—including roles as chair (2012–13), secretary-treasurer (2005–06), and board member (2002–06)—has enabled him to influence the organization’s strategic direction and governance at the highest level.

In addition, he has contributed to numerous high-impact committees and task forces, including the Business Accreditation Committee, Candidacy Committee (as both member and chair), Audit Committee, Accreditation Quality Committee (as vice chair and chair), Committee on Innovation in Management Education (as chair), Committee on Accreditation Policy, CEO Selection Committee, and the Accreditation Visitation Task Force. Through these roles, he has helped shape accreditation standards, policies, and processes, as well as identify emerging challenges and opportunities in business education.

His leadership within AACSB has been both extensive and influential. In addition to serving as board chair and secretary-treasurer, DiAngelo chaired the Initial Accreditation Committee, the Accreditation Candidacy Committee, and the Innovation Committee, and served on the Business Practices Committee (now the Business Influencer Committee). He also co-chaired the selection committee for AACSB’s presidential search and played a key role in the development of the 2013 accreditation standards.

Beyond AACSB governance, he has contributed to the broader higher education landscape, including testifying before the Council for Higher Education in support of AACSB’s role in accreditation. His leadership in accreditation practice is equally significant, having served on more than 50 accreditation visits—primarily as peer review team chair—across regions including the United States, Europe, Africa, South America, China, and Australia.

DiAngelo’s collegiality and commitment to supporting institutions are evident in his work as a counselor to more than 50 schools pursuing initial accreditation or reaccreditation, in addition to his extensive peer review service. He has provided guidance on standards interpretation, Continuous Improvement Review and Self-Evaluation Report preparation, and strategies for addressing accreditation challenges.

He has also been an active contributor to AACSB’s learning and engagement activities, serving as a volunteer presenter at numerous conferences and seminars, including the International Conference and Annual Meeting, Deans Conference, Accreditation Conference, New Deans Seminar, and Associate Deans Conference. His presentations have addressed topics such as evolving accreditation standards, processes, and societal impact models, including Sustainable Development Goals dashboards and journal impact ratings.

The impact of DiAngelo’s contributions is both broad and enduring. Throughout his career, he has been invited to serve on virtually every AACSB accreditation-related committee, chairing many of them, and has played a direct role in shaping the systems and structures that underpin AACSB’s accreditation processes. Notably, his experience as a peer review team leader led to his involvement in developing the AACSB Visitation Manual in the early 2000s, a foundational resource for training peer review teams.

He has also contributed to key organizational decisions, including serving on committees to select AACSB’s executive vice president of accreditation and its president and CEO, as well as participating in the multi-year effort to relocate AACSB’s headquarters from St. Louis to Tampa. Importantly, DiAngelo was involved in the early expansion of AACSB accreditation beyond the United States, contributing to the transformation of AACSB into a truly global accrediting body.

Across three decades, he has played a role in nearly every major transformation within the organization, leaving a lasting imprint on its governance, accreditation standards, global reach, and overall evolution.
