Barry Burgan has more than 40 years of academic experience, including over two decades in senior leadership roles, most notably at Bond Business School, Bond University, where he served as deputy dean and later associate dean of development prior to his retirement. He also previously served as dean of the Adelaide Business School at the University of Adelaide.

Throughout his career, he has combined academic leadership with deep expertise in applied finance and economics, specializing in infrastructure project valuation and financing, as well as public policy evaluation and cost-benefit analysis. As an honorary adjunct professor at Bond University, his research has focused on financial, economic, and social assessments, applying microeconomic theory at a managerial level and incorporating applied econometrics, particularly in regional economic modeling.

Burgan’s leadership has been demonstrated through both institutional impact and sustained service to AACSB. He played a pivotal role in guiding Bond University and the University of Adelaide through AACSB accreditation, with Bond also achieving EQUIS accreditation under his leadership. His extensive experience in university management and international accreditation processes positioned him as a trusted leader and advisor within the global business education community. Over the course of his career, he actively contributed to AACSB through service on peer review teams, as a mentor, and as a committee member, concluding these formal roles at the end of 2025.

His collegiality and commitment to supporting other institutions are evident in his global engagement. Burgan participated in 13 peer review team visits across eight countries, serving as both member and chair, and mentored four schools through the initial accreditation process. Since 2019, he has facilitated 11 AACSB accreditation seminars and contributed as a speaker at five AACSB conferences worldwide. He has also supported volunteer development as a subject matter expert in AACSB training videos, sharing his expertise to strengthen the broader accreditation community.

Burgan’s long-term impact on AACSB is particularly reflected in his extensive committee service. He served four terms on the Initial Accreditation Committee, contributing nine years of service between 2012 and 2024, and additionally served two years on both the PreAccreditation Committee and the Business Accreditation Policy Committee from July 2022 to June 2024. Across more than a decade of committee involvement, he played a significant role in shaping accreditation decisions and supporting schools as they navigated the accreditation process. His contributions have had a lasting influence on institutions entering and advancing through AACSB accreditation, reinforcing quality, rigor, and continuous improvement across the global business education landscape.
