The COVID-19 pandemic has hit all of society like a tidal wave. InBusiness Schools it has shaken our core activities and processes fundamentally, whether it is admissions, transitioning to online learning and assessment, faculty management and maintaining a sense of collegiality and well-being in a world of remote working. As we start to weather the storm, we are all looking to the future and what it means around our missions on internationalisation, engaging students with the ‘real’ world and our expected plans for growth. The Affinity Group Session explores how the job of an Associate Dean has changed in a matter of weeks, how we are starting to navigate the uncertainty and reorient our activities.
How has your job changed? What have you and your School done effectively? How can we continue to learn and adapt to a new reality?
The session will present some short case studies of experiences (it is way too early to talk of best practice!) and provide a discussion forum for members.

Building and Managing Your School’s Community Virtually
Deans of business schools constantly face the challenge of managing stakeholders’ engagements in strategic, productive, and impactful ways. This issue is exacerbated for deans of small schools with relatively fewer human and financial resources to support activities. This session will provide a space for deans of small schools to learn about and discuss approaches they may want to entertain, in an online academic work environment, as they work to keep the sense of community “vibrant” and the academic work flow “alive.” We will also conduct some sort of a group “therapy” to share how we are all navigating the complexities of adapting to the new norm. This session will start with a panel, members of which will share their success stories and innovative approaches to address this challenge. We anticipate deans of small schools will gain perspective, comfort, and also actionable ideas, as they work to manage stakeholders’ engagements in meaningful and beneficial ways.
