Benchmarking is a proven method to engage in continuous quality improvement and institutional development. It enriches your school's quality assurance competencies and informs your mission, vision, and planning.

But often, business school professionals don't know where to start the benchmarking process, who to benchmark against, or the data sources available to them.

This course will give you the resources, tools, and skills to effectively use benchmarking for timely, informed decision making. Use it to: 

  • Develop new programs, and position them appropriately for your market
  • Recruit new students more effectively
  • Utilize rankings and other public and private data-sources for strategic development
  • Discover how your peers compare, to identify areas of strategic focus

Learning Objectives

The goal of this course is to guide business school professionals to develop new competencies for systematic comparisons based on benchmarking methods using multiple data sources.


At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand what benchmarking is and the relevant benchmarking areas
  • Define national and international peers and competitors
  • Understand how to implement benchmarking in strategic development, quality assurance, internationalization of the institution
  • Create an institutional culture that encourages working with data and evidence in quality assurance and institutional development
  • Understand how to access and combine relevant data from multiple sources
  • Build a network of institutional benchmarking experts

Course Format

The course format will include 1.5 hours per week of synchronous learning and 2.5 hours per week of asynchronous learning over 3 weeks.

Through asynchronous media such as videos, facilitator presentations, and reading assignments, participants will be introduced to benchmarking methods, cases and relevant data sources and learn how to analyze their chosen topics and conduct a benchmarking analysis of their own institution.

During the synchronous training sessions, participants will present case studies and better practice models from their own organizations and/or business schools around the globe, which will support the developmental and benchmarking nature of the training modules.
