Jönköping International Business School Becomes the First Institution in Sweden to Earn AACSB International Accreditation

TAMPA, Fla., USA (2015 December 21)AACSB International (AACSB) announced today that Jönköping International Business School has earned accreditation, and is now the first institution in Sweden to hold business accreditation from AACSB. Founded in 1916, AACSB International is the longest serving global accrediting body for business schools that offer undergraduate, master's, and doctorate degrees in business and accounting.

"AACSB congratulates Jönköping International Business School and dean Johan Roos on being the first institution in Sweden to earn accreditation," said Robert D. Reid, executive vice president and chief accreditation officer of AACSB International. "During this peer-review process, JIBS confirmed alignment with 15 global accreditation standards, while demonstrating how they achieve success within each of the three pillars on which AACSB accreditation rests—engagement, innovation, and impact.

AACSB Accreditation is the hallmark of excellence in business education, and has been earned by less than five percent of the world's business programs. Today, there are 746 business schools in 51 countries and territories that maintain AACSB Accreditation. Similarly, 182 institutions maintain an additional specialized AACSB Accreditation for their accounting programs.

Achieving accreditation is a process of rigorous internal review, engagement with an AACSB assigned mentor, and peer review. During the multi-year process the school focuses on developing and implementing a plan to align with AACSB’s Accreditation standards. These standards require excellence in areas relating to strategic management and innovation; student, faculty, and staff as active participants; learning and teaching; and academic and professional engagement.

"AACSB Accreditation represents the highest achievement for an educational institution that awards business degrees. The entire JIBS team—including the administration, faculty, directors, staff, and students—are to be commended for their role in becoming the first institution in Sweden to earn accreditation, and for their commitment to ongoing improvement," continued Reid.
