Kathleen A. Krentler, College of Business Administration, San Diego State University
Kathy Krentler (DBA, University of Kentucky; MBA & BS, Wayne State University) is director of assessment, Fowler College of Business, San Diego State University. She has served in this position since 2006. She has also served as the associate director of the SDSU Center for Teaching and Learning and was the SDSU College of Business director of undergraduate programs for 14 years. Krentler’s academic discipline is marketing. Krentler facilitates the Assurance of Learning Seminar I for AACSB and has presented at every AACSB Assessment Conference since the conference’s inception in 2008. She was a member of the 2015 AACSB Assessment Conference advisory board, has developed and presented an AACSB webinar on best practices in assessment, and served as the moderator for the assessment module of the AACSB Online Teaching Effectiveness Seminar. She has made presentations at numerous other assessment conferences including the IUPUI Assessment Institute and North Carolina State Undergraduate Assessment Symposium and served as the keynote speaker at the 2014 CSU Business Assessment Test Conference. Krentler has published assessment-related research in journals and consulted with universities on assurance of student learning. As a member of the WASC Substantive Change Commission from 2013–2016 (with a noted expertise in assessment), she reviewed proposals from universities seeking to introduce new programs that were acceptable to this regional accreditor.
Kathryn Martell, Dean, College of Business, Central Washington University
Kathryn Martell (PhD, University of Maryland, BA, University of Chicago) is Dean of the College of Business at Central Washington University. Prior to her position at Central Washington, she was Dean of the College of Business Administration and Public Administration at Kean University and Associate Dean, Associate Provost and Professor of Management at Montclair State University. Before entering academia, Dr. Martell spent 12 years in Washington D.C. as a consultant, government analyst, and lobbyist. Dr. Martell is a nationally-known expert on the topic of assessing student learning. Since the new accreditation standards were passed in April 2003, Dr. Martell has worked closely with the AACSB to help schools meet the Assurance of Learning standards. More than 900 faculty and administrators from 250 universities have attended the AACSB seminars that Dr. Martell facilitates on Assessment of Student Learning. She is also a frequent speaker at AACSB national and regional conferences. She developed the content for AACSB’s on-line Assessment Resource Center (www.aacsb.edu/ARC), and edited the recently released books published by the AACSB and Association for Institutional Research (AIR) – Assessment of Student Learning in Business Schools: Best Practices Each Step of the Way. She has provided consulting advice to dozens of universities on assurance of student learning.
