Dr. Tawnya Means is the Assistant Dean and Director of the Teaching and Learning Center for the College of Business at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. In this role, she provides vision, leadership, and management for a Center focused on serving the needs of students and faculty as it relates to teaching and learning. Her team develops and implements a comprehensive and effective learning support structure for students and creates faculty development programs and resources to assist faculty with instructional innovation and adoption of pedagogical best practices. In addition, her team supports the college Assurance of Learning process for maintenance of accreditation through AACSB. She is a professor of practice in the Management department, teaching courses in strategy and leadership, communication, and teams in the virtual world for the college.
Previously, Tawnya spent more than 9 years as the director for the Warrington College of Business at the University of Florida and before that, as an instructional designer for the University of Missouri's School of Information Science and Learning Technologies and a consultant leading a team of instructional designers for the U.S. Department of Defense. Dr. Means received her B.S. in Education, M.S. in Educational Technology, and PhD in Information Science and Learning Technologies with an emphasis on learning systems design, all from the University of Missouri. She completed the AACSB Post-doctoral Bridge Program in Management and Entrepreneurship at the University of Florida. Her research interests are in online and blended learning, active learning, learning space design, technology for teaching, access to digital learning resources, and faculty preparation to teach. She has long been a leader in campus initiatives and committees and actively presents at conferences and other institutions and organizations on technology-enhanced learning.
Vanessa Dennen is a Professor of Instructional Systems & Learning Technologies at Florida State University and the Co-editor in Chief of The Internet and Higher Education. She has a PhD from Indiana University (2001) and an MS from Syracuse University (1995). Her research focuses on emerging technologies for formal and informal learning, networked knowledge activities, and the development of identity and community in online environments. Vanessa has authored more than 75 journal articles and book chapters, which have appeared in publications such as Instructional Science; Distance Education; Computers in Human Behavior; The Handbook of Distance Education; and The Handbook of Research on Educational Communications and Technology, among others. Additionally, she has co-edited Virtual Professional Development and Informal Learning in Online Environments (2013; with Jennifer B. Myers) and Social Presence and Identity in Online Learning (2019; with Patrick Lowenthal). At Florida State University, Vanessa teaches courses on instructional design and research methods for new and emerging technologies and has served as ISLT Program Coordinator since 2008. Christian Hofer is an Associate Professor in the Department of Supply Chain Management at the University of Arkansas’ Sam M. Walton College of Business. Dr. Hofer received his PhD from the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland and a BA with Honors in General and International Business from the European School of Business in Reutlingen, Germany and Reims Management School, France. Dr. Hofer teaches supply chain management courses and seminars in the doctoral, executive MBA, full-time MBA and undergraduate programs. His research interests focus on competitive dynamics in supply chain management. This research examines how companies learn from and copy rivals’ logistics and operations management activities in an effort to gain competitive advantage. He has published numerous articles in journals such as Journal of Operations Management, Journal of Business Logistics, Journal of Retailing, International Journal of Production Economics, Journal of Transport Economics and Policy and Transportation Research Part E. He has also authored book and textbook chapters. Dr. Hofer is the recipient of several faculty, teaching, best reviewer and best paper awards, including the 2012 Journal of Operations Management Jack Meredith Best Paper Award. Prior to returning to academia in 2003, Dr. Hofer worked as a management consultant with Booz Allen Hamilton in Munich, Germany.
Dr. Michelle R. Darnell is the Honor and Integrity Director as well as an Associate Clinical Professor in Management at the Pennsylvania State University's Smeal College of Business. Dr. Darnell’s primary focus is on creating and sustaining practical initiatives that actively engage and bring together University stakeholders with the intent of supporting responsible business activity. She holds Bachelor degrees in Philosophy and Biology from the University of San Diego and earned an M.A. and Ph.D. in Philosophy from Purdue University. Dr. Darnell additionally completed an AACSB Post-Doctoral program at the University of Florida in Management and Marketing.
Prior to joining the faculty at Smeal, Dr. Darnell served as Co-Director of the Poe Business Ethics Center and Senior Lecturer in the Department of Management at the University of Florida, where she taught courses in Business Ethics, Corporate Social Responsibility, and Organizational Behavior, and created experiential learning activities for students to develop ethical leadership skills. With more than 15 years' experience working in higher education, Dr. Darnell has been recognized for innovative use of technology in the classroom and as ‘Teacher of the Year’ multiple times. Her primary research interests are in issues related to: ethical decision making within organizations, organizational ontology, as well as business education and pedagogy. In addition to her work for the University, Dr. Darnell also has worked as a consultant for business and government entities that are looking to resolve ethical issues or provide employee centered workshops on ethical decision making and building ethical organizational cultures.
