
New Deans Seminar (Barcelona)
The New Deans Seminar is a "must-attend" event that provides insightful advice on how to handle the first few years as well as interactive discussions regarding expectations, career path, strategic planning, and AACSB Accreditation.
This is your chance to talk about the things you can't discuss on campus. Get a head start in your new role by building trusted relationships and expanding your network with others. You will have the opportunity to talk one-on-one with experienced deans who have been through the process as well as make life-long colleagues.
This two-day event will prepare you for success, no matter what your goal as dean may be.

Facilitators
Ed Grier, Santa Clara University
Ed Grier is the dean of the Leavey School of Business. Previously the dean of Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Business, he successfully transitioned his corporate expertise to academia resulting in national attention and rankings for the VCU School of Business and a renaissance of corporate and community partnerships. Prior to VCU, Ed spent 29 years with the Walt Disney Company where he served in a variety of progressively more responsible roles around the globe. Most recently, he was the president of the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim California where he oversaw Disneyland Park, Disney California Adventure Park, the Disneyland Hotel, Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, the Paradise Pier Hotel and Downtown Disney, comprising nearly $2 billion in revenue, 20,000 employees. A sought-after speaker on topics including diversity, leadership, and corporate creativity, Grier earned his B.A. in accounting from Duquesne University, becoming a certified public accountant while at Ernst & Ernst (now known as Ernst & Young) for four years before joining Disney.
François Ortalo-Magné is the ninth Dean of London Business School, a position he has held since August 2017. As Chief Executive Officer of the School, he is implementing a plan to fulfil a vision of LBS as an engaged community walking the learning journey together. Ortalo-Magné serves on the board of directors of the Graduate Management Admission Council and on the International Advisory Board of BritishAmerican Business. His research on the economics of land and housing markets has been published in leading academic journals and he has advised private, governmental and multilateral organisations around the world. Prior to his appointment, Ortalo-Magné was the Albert O. Nicholas Dean and Robert E. Wangard Professor of Real Estate at the Wisconsin School of Business. He grew up in France in the Pyrénées and on the family farm in the Lot Valley, before training as an agricultural engineer. He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Minnesota and his first academic appointment was at the London School of Economics.
Jasmina Selimovic, University of Sarajevo
Jasmina Selimovic is a dean and professor (Department for Finance and Department for Quantitative Economics) at the School of Economics and Business University of Sarajevo (SEBS). Previously she held the position of SEBS's Vice-Dean for Academic Affairs and International Cooperation for six years, in two consecutive mandates. Professor Selimovic's fields of professional interest include quantitative finance, more particularly insurance, finance, financial mathematics, actuarial mathematics and risk management. Selimovic has served as a Supervisory Board member of the Raiffeisen bank BH, as Chairman of the Managing Board of Institute for Health Insurance of Canton Sarajevo and held the member position in the Bosnia and Herzegovina Fiscal Council Advisory Group. Professor Selimovic has extensive professional experience in quality assurance and management in higher education and has led the SEBS's Accreditation Team in the processes of obtaining the two most prestigious international accreditations in higher education, namely The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD). Since 2017, Professor Selimovic has been a member of the EFMD's EPAS Accreditation Board. She regularly serves as peer review team member for the AACSB and EFMD institutional and programme accreditations. Selimovic has been guest lecturing at several institutions, and has participated as a leader, co-leader, researcher, consultant, and associate in various scientific and consulting projects and studies.
