Mark A.L. Mason is chief executive officer of Citi Private Bank. He recently served as CEO of Citi Holdings, which comprises brokerage and asset management, global consumer finance, and Citi's special assets portfolios. Previously he served as COO of Citi Holdings.
Since joining Citi in 2001, Mason has held various positions, including chief financial officer and head of strategy and M&A for Citi's global wealth management unit for three years, and chief of staff to Citigroup's chair and CEO for three years. He was instrumental in the formation and development of the client-focused strategy of Citigroup Alternative Investments, where he was head of strategy, planning, and analysis, among several other positions. In addition, Mason served as CFO and COO for Citigroup Real Estate Investments and was responsible for restructuring the business.
Prior to CItigroup, Mason spent three years at Lucent Technologies as director of strategy and business development. He also spent several years as a strategy consultant with Marakon Associates, working with a number of Fortune 100 companies developing strategies to maximize shareholder value. He has experience in investment banking with Goldman Sachs & Co., as well.
Mason earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in finance and graduated with honors from Howard University and earned an MBA from Harvard Business School. He is also a member of the board of directors of Primerica Inc. and the United Negro College Fund.
In 2013, Mason was named Corporate Executive of the Year by Black Enterprise magazine. In 2011, he received the Howard University Distinguished Alumni Award in Business. Mason was also named one of the 100 Most Powerful Executives in Corporate America by Black Enterprise in 2009, and in 2008 he was recognized on Crain's New York Business’s 40 Under 40 list and received the YMCA Business Leadership Award.
