Curriculum Development for Leadership: Singapore

24 April 2013 | Singapore

The need to embed leadership development in the business school curriculum has never been more urgent than the present period of shifting economic power, global uncertainty and market failure. Public and private institutions, politicians, regulators, consumers and ordinary citizens are looking to the business school for graduates of great character who have vision, integrity, and the professional and interpersonal skills needed to craft and implement solutions to complex problems.

This seminar will help schools to design and deliver leadership development programs that leverage their unique capabilities and resources. Participants will learn the building blocks that underpin many successful leadership development programs and will discuss various pedagogies (cases, experiential learning, simulations, and coaching) for delivering the leadership curriculum. They'll also explore the potential for administrators, recruiters, alumni and corporate sponsors to play a powerful supporting role in delivering curricular and extra-curricular activities that personalize the learning experience for students while controlling the budget. Finally, they'll explore current thinking and practice in expanding the scope of leadership development to embrace Global Responsibility.

Learning Objectives

  • Learn the common elements and learning approaches of leadership development programs
  • Discuss the skills and competencies required of leaders, including recent notions of global responsibility
  • Learn to design and implement curricular and extra-curricular initiatives that provide leadership development opportunities
  • Learn to bridge leadership development with career development services and corporate sponsorships for greater synergies and impact
  • Discuss techniques for measuring the value of leadership development programs
