Green Building Resources

Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE)
An association of colleges and universities in the U.S. and Canada working to create a sustainable future. Its mission is to promote sustainability in all sectors of higher education. AASHE has developed its own green building rating system, the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS). STARS is a transparent, self-reporting framework for colleges and universities to gauge relative progress toward sustainability.

Building and Construction Authority Green Mark Award
Launched in order to encourage and recognize environmental-friendly construction in Singapore. Buildings receiving the Green Mark Award are rated at one of four levels.

Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM)
The official rating method of the UK Green Building Council (UKGBC). BREEAM assessors have multiple assessment models based on the type of building to be certified, one of which is education buildings.

Clean Air-Cool Planet
A nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to finding and promoting solutions to global warming, through civic engagement, education, and policy. They offer a Campus Carbon Calculator.

Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI)
The administers’ project certification for commercial and institutional buildings and tenant spaces under the USGBCs Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating Systems addressing new construction and ongoing operations.

Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA)
A national, nonprofit organization committed to developing a sustainable property industry for Australia by encouraging the adoption of green building practices through market-based solutions. GBCA uses the Green Star Rating Tools for this purpose.

The Sustainable Campus
An informative web site dedicated to promoting sustainable campuses throughout the world. It contains links to resources, helping institutions of higher education transition their campuses to a more sustainable future.

U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC)
A nonprofit community of leaders working to make green buildings available to everyone within a generation. USGBCs LEED Certification of green buildings is a third-party certification program and the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high-performance green buildings.

World Green Building Council (WorldGBC)
A union of councils from over 80 countries and territories that aim to accelerate global sustainable building practices.
