Exterior Style and Symbolism
Often, an important aspect of the building design is the way it complements existing structures on the university/business school campus and the style of the surrounding community. In other cases, aspects of the building design may also symbolize themes, values, or other messages that the business school hopes to convey.
Applied Learning Spaces (Laboratories and Simulators)
Modern business school facilities often include various forms of applied learning spaces in which business students can get hands-on experience with career-related activities in a risk-free environment. Examples include behavioral research laboratories, financial markets laboratories, mock trading floors, moot boardrooms, and others.
Collaboration and Connection
A new trend in the design of business school facilities is the integration of spaces that foster collaboration and connections among students, faculty members, and the community. In general, these spaces are designed to foster one or more of three types of collaboration: among students and faculty; between the business school and the rest of the university; and between the business school and the surrounding community.
Flexibility
Many new business school facilities are incorporating multi-purpose facilities, as well as other features designed to accommodate the changing needs of the business school. View examples found in recent construction.
Student and Faculty Services
Many features of business school facilities are designed to maximize the time students and faculty spend within the business school spaces, provide convenient services that enable more efficient use of time, and facilitate more frequent interactions among students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
Technology and Multimedia Integration
Advances in technology and reductions in cost have enabled business schools to be increasingly creative in the ways they incorporate technological and multimedia capabilities into their facilities. View examples of commonly used technologies.
