Overview

Faculty members trained in traditional business disciplines often feel they lack the training and expertise to teach ethics.

Most positions filled in Colleges of Business relate to traditional business disciplines, such as accounting, finance, management, marketing, business law and sometimes economics. Few academics in business schools are experts in the area of business ethics. Business law or management faculty are often called upon to staff ethics or business and society courses because these domains are perceived as ‘closer’ to business ethics. And with integrative approaches, professors in accounting, finance, marketing and management are asked to deal effectively with this topic. Unfortunately, many faculty feel uncomfortable with subjects beyond their core area of research and training, especially areas as complex and difficult as ethics. AACSB sponsored training events can assist in strengthening faculty’s ability to teach business ethics.
