Global Ethics Resources
The Globally Responsible Leadership Initiative
Developed by the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) and
supported by the United Nations Global Compact, the initiative’s goal is to
illustrate the necessity of global responsible leadership and encourage its
practice in organizations worldwide. The initiative focuses on the
role that business schools should play in advocating this global movement.
European
Business Ethics Network
The members of this network are concerned with promoting business ethics
education, training, and improving practices. The primary aim of EBEN
is to foster a community of business ethicists for future generations of
business practitioners and academics. A wide range of views about business
ethics is ensured by a diverse membership, representing 33 countries in 2002. EBEN accepts this plurality of perspectives and promotes ethical awareness in
business decision-making through dissemination of information about initiatives,
good practice, research, training, education and networking.
Caux
Round Table
The Caux Round Table (CRT) is an international network of principled business
leaders dedicated to promoting moral capitalism. The CRT advocates for its
Principles for Business, which apply fundamental ethical norms to business
decision-making. It seeks to create a foundation for a fair, free and
transparent global society. The center offers ethics training for corporate boards of directors and a new ethics curricula for business schools.
Transparency
International
Transparency International (TI) builds national, regional, and global coalitions to
fight domestic and international corruption. It assists in the design and the
implementation of effective integrity systems, collects, analyzes and
disseminates information, and raises public awareness about the damaging impact of
corruption on human and economic
development. TI produces a country corruption index
which ranks countries on their level of corruption.
The Centre for Innovation in Corporate
Responsibility
CSER (corporate social and
environmental responsibility) is a responsible business approach for integrating
environmental, social and ethical management into the overall business strategy.
It combines environmental management with corporate social responsibility (CSR),
which is defined as “the continuing commitment by business to behave ethically
and to contribute to economic development while improving the quality of life of
the workforce and their families, as well as of the local community and society
at large," (World Business Council for Sustainable Development, May 1999).
This site discusses the ‘triple bottom’ line and its implications in
managing ethics and social issues.
EthicsWeb
The EthicsWeb is a collection of ethics-related websites. The style and function
of the EthicsWeb
websites varies, but each strives to present a range of high-quality
ethics-related resources on a particular topic.
CERES
The site is home to a leading
U.S. coalition of environmental, investor, and advocacy groups working together
for a sustainable future. Seventy companies, including many multinationals, have
committed to continuous environmental improvement by endorsing the CERES
Principles; a ten-point code of environmental conduct. CERES provides a common
ground where groups with widely different backgrounds, assumptions, and visions
find concrete solutions to today's environmental challenges.
Institute for Business Ethics
The institute promotes business
ethics and corporate responsibility through two key program areas. First, it
works to increase public awareness and dialogue about international business
ethics issues through such educational resources and activities as the
Roundtable Discussion Series, the International Business Ethics Review, and its
Website. Second, it assists companies to establish effective international
ethics programs.
International Society of
Business, Economics, and Ethics
The International Society of
Business, Economics, and Ethics (ISBEE) is the first world-wide professional
association to focus exclusively on the study of business, economics, and
ethics. ISBEE brings together individuals from diverse fields,
such as economics, business, law, and philosophy, and different practical areas,
such as human resources, marketing, finance, social and environmental concerns.
All members share an interest in the ethical dimension of economic, social, and
environmental issues that affect domestic and global firms, individuals, and
society. The organization offers a global network of people and
organizations and a wide range of professional activities including quadrennial
congresses, proceedings, and a Web page.
