New AACSB Report on Effective and Inclusive Learning Environments
A new AACSB report this summer provides guidance
to faculty and administrators for improving the effectiveness and
inclusiveness of business school education in an increasingly
diverse world. The recommendations for bringing about
improvements in the classroom address issues such as the overall
school climate, the need for faculty and staff development, and
the existing structures and resources available for such an
effort.
The report addresses three separate, relatively
distinct, goals:
- Increasing the knowledge, skills, and
competence of faculty and administrators so that they can
work effectively with demographically and culturally
diverse populations;
- Providing strategies for increasing
positive interaction and cooperation among
demographically and culturally diverse groups so they can
work together more effectively both in school and later,
on the job; and,
- Offering strategies for making business
schools more inclusive by creating more effective
educational environments for women, minorities and
international students.
The report is the result of the work of a task
force commissioned by AACSB's Board of Directors to increase the
effectiveness and inclusiveness of business school education,
given increasing demographic and cultural diversity of students,
faculty, employers and others. The group was chaired by Nancy
DiTomaso, professor at the Graduate School of Management of
Rutgers University, and included Daria Kirby, assistant professor
of business administration, Katz Graduate School, University of
Pittsburgh; Frances Milliken, professor, Stern School of
Business, New York University; and Harry Triandis, professor,
department of psychology and Institute of Labor and Industrial
Relations, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
AACSB members will receive a complimentary copy
of the report in June. Additional copies will be available for
$25 each, $30 overseas airmail. To order, contact AACSB.
