AACSB recently
released a new video designed to help peer review teams and schools
interpret and implement the accreditation standards. The 70-minute video
was made possible in part through the support of The Price Waterhouse
Foundation, a longtime supporter of AACSB activities.
"AACSB Accreditation Standards:
Interpretation and Implementation" is designed to assist deans,
accounting program administrators, faculty, and business school and
accounting program stakeholders to better understand how the
accreditation standards focus schools to achieve quality and continuous
improvement in management education.
In the video, a panel of individuals
experienced with the accreditation process discuss the standards in
general and comment on some of the interpretation and process issues
that some schools and peer review teams have encountered.
The video is organized into segments
related to the individual standards and important aspects of the peer
review process. Each segment includes a brief introduction to the
standard and comments and observations by the panel.
A companion video discussion guide
includes the discussion questions that appear at the conclusion of each
segment of the video. The questions are designed to stimulate
discussions on how the standards and peer review process apply to a
school's mission, objectives, educational programs and processes.
"I am excited about the availability
of this excellent resource and encourage deans to use the video and
discussion guide with their faculty, university administrators, students
and others," said Joseph A. Alutto, AACSB president.
The video received an enthusiastic
reception among the business faculty at the University of South Carolina
at Spartanburg, reports Jerry Bennett, dean. "Few of the faculty
have had the opportunity to hear panels of deans address accreditation
issues," said Bennett, "and all of the faculty have questions
of definition and interpretation of the standards. The panel discussion
in the video is both informative and assuring in clarifying items of
interest. We have made arrangements to assure that all faculty view the
video and participate in discussions of their questions and the
discussion points included with the videotape."
A copy of the video and discussion guide
has been distributed to all domestic educational member representatives,
corporate member representatives and others. Additional copies are
available for $60 ($65 overseas airmail).
