Question and Answer
During a recent AACSB International Conference and Annual Meeting (ICAM) session, a
question was posed regarding the academic qualifications of faculty members in accredited business schools.
Question:
Can a publishing faculty member with a Master’s degree be classified as academically qualified according to Tables
10-1 and 10-2 within the AACSB accreditation standards?
Answer:
With the shortage of doctorally qualified faculty, an increasing number of schools raise
questions regarding Standard 10 relative to faculty qualifications. While the focus of a school is to normally inventory
their faculty resources, the standard’s focus is to review of overall quality and not just quantity. The objective of
Standard 10 is to support quality academic programs with a qualified faculty that is aligned with school’s mission.
Therefore, there is no absolute “yes” or “no” answer to the question. However, the following provides some expanded
perspectives on the question. [more]
