American Association of State Colleges and Universities Business Schools (AASCUBS)

Mission

American Association of State Colleges and Universities Business Schools (AASCUBS) affinity group aims to facilitate networking among AASCU business schools to advance the mission of AASCU. The mission of AASCU includes the realm of operations spanning student ‘access’ to student ‘success.’

Membership

Individuals holding Dean or equivalent status at institutions that are concurrent members of the AASCU and AACSB International are automatically considered members of the AASCU affinity group.  Individuals that previously held Dean or an equivalent position at AASCU/AACSB member school can be granted membership at the approval of the AASCU Chair. Purpose

  1. Promote access, innovation, and quality enhancement in member schools.
     
  2. Facilitate networking among AASCUBS Deans in both formal and informal settings.
     
  3. Facilitate the sharing of best practices among the affinity group members.
     
  4. Conduct periodic surveys to ascertain trends and develop benchmarks in the business schools in public universities and colleges.
     
  5. Initiate process for data gathering, research, and concomitant services for the affinity group.
     
  6. Facilitate information exchange concerning program enhancement and resource development among business schools operating within the comprehensive public university environment.
     
  7. Facilitate creation of professional and personal support networks for member deans.
     
  8. Establish more effective channels of communication between AACSB International and academic and professional staff of AASCU/AACSB member institutions.

Activities

In order to achieve the purposes above, the AASCU affinity group will hold activities at some or all of the conferences given below.

  • Continuous Improvement Conference
     
  • Deans Conference
     
  • International Conference and Annual Meeting
     
  • And other conferences as determined by the leadership of the affinity group

In addition, the affinity group will publish white papers, research papers, and newsletters specific to its member institutions to further interactions and develop a broader understanding of unique challenges state business schools face and the opportunities afforded to them.               

Governance

Chair

Provides the overall direction and guidance in consultation with the leadership group.  The Chair works with the AACSB International staff and Board of Directors, as necessary, in the matters pertaining to the affinity group.

Vice Chair

Identifies conference ideas and specific sessions for the affinity group.  In addition, the vice chair officiates as chair in his/her absence.

Director of Networking

Works with the AACSB International’s affinity group coordinator to set up web pages and maintain an updated site.

Director of Relationship Building

Identify and strategize ways to foster symbiotic relationships with the affinity group's constituents.

Director of Communication

Develops short newsletters, and informs and updates the members periodically about the affinity group.

Director of Knowledge Building

Working in tandem with AACSB International’s Knowledge Services staff, creates surveys, compiles and disseminates reports to benefit the affinity group.

Director of Program Enhancement and Value Creation

Identifies ways to enhance the value of membership in the affinity group.

Director of Visibility

Explores ways to make the affinity group visible in the AACSB International.

Director At-Large

Takes up tasks related to special projects and other activities assigned by the leadership of the affinity group.
