INTERMAN is an international association of management development associations.  INTERMAN was established in 1998 as an association de fait, in accordance with the Belgian law. It was hosted until end June 2003 by the efmd (European Foundation for Management Development) and since July 2003 by AACSB International - The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.

Management development associations anticipated many of the needs of their members - schools and corporations alike- for services targeted towards the above mentioned challenges. Following a landmark project between North America and Europe in the late seventies and the expressed need to broaden the antenna systems of management education beyond these two regions, leading associations from across the world decided in 1985 to form INTERMAN, a loose and flexible "network of networks" with the support of the International Labour Organisation (ILO), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), other development agencies, and a few forward looking international companies. The termination of the ILO/UNDP projects that provided base support for INTERMAN in the past offered associations and their members the unique opportunity in 1998 to take full responsibility for the global network and jointly give a new impetus to their cooperation, building on their respective experience, strengths and leadership.

In a world characterised by growing globalisation and interdependence, management educators throughout the globe have a collective responsibility to enhance the learning process of private and public managers as change agents and drivers of sustainable socio-economic development. This charge must be implemented against a background of intensive competition and profound shifts in the nature of learning that radically affect the way companies and government agencies consider their investment in people development and its impact on performance. Consequently, business schools and other providers of management education are rethinking the way they operate and interact with their clients. Partnerships, mutual learning, and networking across all kinds of boundaries -geographical as well as organisational- are increasingly seen as an integral part of their policies and programmes.

Collaboration among associations in the INTERMAN framework is guided by the overall aim to strengthen networks and their internationalisation process, to provide their members and stakeholders with services that they cannot offer alone, and to promote diversity in best management practice for a globalised world.

INTERMAN objectives and activities include:

Contributing actively to the Global Forums.
