design expert and two deans who've recently taken on building projects
will explain how to achieve a strategically planned, distinctive learning
environment that effectively integrates with the greater academic
community. Key discussion topics include: avoiding cost risks of

New Deans on Deaning:
Facing the Challenges
Participants in this lively session will discuss the challenges and
opportunities that new deans face during their first few years in the
position. Institutional
challenges, external challenges and personal career challenges are only
some of the areas that will be discussed by a panel of deans who have been
appointed within the past three years.
Learn the difficulties and successes encountered as new deans seek
to master the inside game, develop external friends and funds, and manage
in the cross-hairs between the faculty, students,
and central administration. This
highly-interactive session will be moderated by a veteran dean who has led

Facilities Survey Report
AACSB International Knowledge Services, in partnership with ikon.5
architects, recently initiated a benchmarking study of business school
facilities. The survey gauges the perceptions and opinions of the
AACSB membership on the best facility examples, provides a benchmark for
square footage requirements, and identifies those elements and amenities
that distinguish notable b-school buildings. The session will
provide a preliminary snap-shot of benchmarking metrics, a preview of the
components defining tomorrow's business schools, and an open forum to
discuss critical issues and concerns—from identity and branding to size,
costs, and amenities.
