Agenda

Plenary I:  The State of Affairs:  Management Education and Social Responsibility
A macro look at the curriculum and MBAs’ attitudes as known through collected research data.  The session will establish the conference framework for the scope of ethics and provide a state of affairs within MBA curricula.

Plenary II:  Is Ethics More than Window Dressing?
Some contend that students are rarely taught a comprehensive ethical framework that illustrates the consequences of integrity lapses in business.  How does management education rate on the scorecard of preparing students who understand responsibility in managing a company and interacting with society?  Where do basic ethics principles fit into management education priorities and what changes are needed?

Luncheon and Plenary III:  Big Questions, Worthy Dreams:  The Power of Education in the Formation of Ethics
Business ethics means applying traditional ethical concepts of truthfulness, honesty, and fairness to a complex, culturally diverse organization, regardless of their own personal ethical background.  This session examines the process of values formation and the role of educators to serve as guides and mentors to young adults to foster the kind of citizenship and leadership so clearly needed in the twenty-first century.

  • Sharon Daloz Parks, author of  “Common Fires: Leading Lives of Commitment in a Complex World” and “Big Questions, Worthy Dreams:  Mentoring Young Adults in the Search for Meaning, Purpose and Faith;” and associate director, Whidbey Institute
