AACSB Conference News Perspectives from Plenary Speaker Sheikh Sultan Saud Al Qassemi
At the upcoming World Class Practices in Management Education Conference in Dubai, Sheikh Sultan Saud Al Qassemi will address attendees from the Middle East and beyond on the topic of economic
sustainability in the region. Here are some of his thoughts on the concept of his session, issues in the Middle Eastern economy, and what today’s business schools must teach tomorrow’s leaders.
What do you see as the biggest issues shaping business in the Middle East? I believe that the lack of transparency in the region along with the stagnant pace of economic, judicial, and labor reforms are two of the biggest obstacles that are impeding the area’s growth. Most countries in the region continue to pay lip service to such issues. Regions such as the GCC, North Africa and the Levant should ideally consolidate their laws since they are being viewed by potential investors as common markets. How should schools of business prepare their students to succeed in today’s economy? Business schools should conduct professional surveys within the marketplace and among their recent graduates to find out which topics were most useful and which may need to be relaunched. What can conference participants anticipate to learn from your session? I hope to speak about how I believe the consolidation of economic laws and education reform in the Gulf can potentially accelerate the growth in the region. |
