This seminar provides faculty from any discipline
with the in-depth learning experience needed to effectively introduce the
subject of ethics to future business leaders. Engage in an analysis of the
ethical dimensions of materials used in the classroom by participating in
computer simulation exercises to further develop your expertise in the area of
ethics. Developed and facilitated by experts in the field of ethics education,
this seminar will greatly enhance your understanding of how to effectively
address ethics in today's academic setting.
Who Should Attend:
- All faculty, department chairs, associate
deans and others involved directly in teaching and curriculum development

Outcomes:
- Develop a stronger, theoretical understanding of
ethics education.

Become familiar with how to integrate ethics into the curriculum, as well as
how to teach ethics more effectively.
- Analyze and discuss key dimensions of cases,
articles, and educational materials that will help ensure intended learning
outcomes in the classroom.

Experience a computer simulation exercise that will sharpen participant
understanding through hands-on exposure, analysis, and discussion.

Deepen understanding through the exchange of ideas, networking with peers, and
addressing points that will enhance your effectiveness with ethics education.
Facilitators (may vary at each offering):
David Bevan is the lecturer in sustainability in the Department of
Management, Royal Holloway, University of London. He also is a visiting lecturer
at Kings College London, Kingston Business School, and the coordinator of
integrating CSR throughout the MBA curriculum, HEC School of Management. David
has over 30 years commercial experience in private equity and business
development in the USA and UK. His current research interests are in
accountability, ethics and the political economy, and managerialism, and
professionalism. David holds a MA, MSc, PhD, and FHEA designation.
Joe DesJardins is associate provost and
academic dean, as well as a professor in the Department of Philosophy, at the
College of St. Benedict and St. John's University in Minnesota. He also serves
as the executive Director of the Society for Business Ethics. He is the
co-author, with Laura Hartman, of Business Ethics: Decision Making for
Personal Integrity and Social Justice (McGraw -Hill). He has published and
lectured extensively in the areas of business ethics, environmental ethics, and
sustainability. He received his B.A. (1973) from Southern Connecticut State
University, and his M.A. (1976) and Ph.D. (1980) from the University of Notre
Dame and previously taught for 12 years at Villanova University.
Laura Hartman is associate vice president
for academic affairs at DePaul University She also is a professor of business
ethics and legal studies in the management department in DePaul's College of
Commerce, where she received the university's Excellence in Teaching Award.
Laura also serves on the board of directors of DePaul's Institute for Business
Ethics. Hartman's scholarship focuses on the ethics of the employment
relationship with a primary emphasis in the area of global labor conditions and
standards, corporate governance culture, and the impact of technology on the
employment relationship. Hartman graduated from Tufts University, magna cum
laude and received her law degree from the University of Chicago Law School.
Dean W. Krehmeyer is the executive
director of the Business Roundtable Institute for Corporate Ethics. Mr.
Krehmeyer is a Certified Public Accountant and has over ten years of financial
and managerial experience. Prior to joining the Institute, Krehmeyer was a
manager with A.T. Kearney, one of the world's largest management consulting firms
where he focused largely on finance transformation and operations strategy
projects for Fortune 500 companies, working with senior executives designing and
implementing initiatives that added value to all of the client's stakeholders.
Krehmeyer received his MBA from The Darden School, where he was awarded the
William Michael Shermet Award for Academic Excellence. He also holds an M.S. in
Accounting and B.S. in Commerce, both from the University of Virginia.
Patricia H. Werhane is the Wicklander
Chair of Business Ethics and Director of the Institute for Business and
Professional Ethics at DePaul University as well as the Peter and Adeline Ruffin
Chair of Business Ethics and Senior Fellow at the Olsson Center for Applied
Ethics in the Darden Graduate School of Business Administration at the
University of Virginia. Pat is a founding member and past president of the
Society of Business Ethics and past president of the American Society for Value
Inquiry. Pat Werhane received her BA from Wellesley College and MA and PhD from
Northwestern University.
