Advisory Council Seminar
Making your business advisory council a strategic asset of your institution

CLOSED
October 2–3, 2008

Tampa, Florida  USA

March 4–5, 2009
Arlington, Virginia  USA
In conjunction with Building B-Schools:
Development and Communications Conference

Business advisory council (BAC) members can be enthusiastic supporters of your institution, as well as public ambassadors who extend your school's reach into the community. But council members must be managed if the council is to realize its full potential. This seminar will help you cultivate and empower members of your council to work hard on behalf of your institution and, in the process, become integral members of the college community. Attendees will learn a tested BAC model designed to help achieve a highly functioning advisory team.

Who Should Attend:

  • Deans, associate deans, b-school administrators, business development officers, and those responsible for a b-school advisory group

Learning Outcomes:

  • Establish and/or evaluate the mission, objectives and membership criteria (e.g., geographical scope, alumni, professional level, size) of your school's business advisory council.
  • Understand the primary structural issues relating to a business advisory council, such as membership terms, fees, committees, by-laws, and become familiar with administrative issues such as timing of meetings, minutes, staffing, and access to council members.
  • Learn how to actively engage BAC members on an ongoing basis—successfully using their talents, skills, and resources to support b-school initiatives.

Facilitator:

  • Patricia M. Flynn, Trustee Professor of Economics and Management at Bentley College, served as dean of the McCallum Graduate School of Business from 1992 to 2002.
