AACSB Globalization of Management Education Task Force Report
Many business schools are entering unfamiliar territory (literally and figuratively) as they strive to serve as a global market, teach global perspectives, and engage in globally relevant research and outreach. In this session, Robert F. Bruner, chair of the AACSB Globalization of Business Education Task Force, will introduce the task force and offer a preview of how the task force hopes to help elevate the achievement of business schools in a global environment. Attendees will be presented with a series of "cases" that highlight issues business schools are likely to encounter, and discuss effective and innovative responses to those situations.

  • Robert F. Bruner, dean and Charles C. Abbott professor of Business Administration, Darden Graduate School of Business Administration, University of Virginia

Global Management Education: Buyers Beware!
For the past 20 years, management education has celebrated the unprecedented birth of business schools throughout the world. Numbering more than 12,000 in over 200 countries, business schools are developing managers for the world's swiftly diversifying economies. Yet, the unbridled growth in management education has placed the industry's quality and long-term credibility in danger. The world's leading business accrediting bodies, AACSB International and EFMD, together, accredit only 5 percent of business schools, and nearly all of them are in high-income countries. Ninety-five percent of the world's business schools are not guided by, and measured against, global management education standards. In this thought-provoking dialogue, AACSB and EFMD CEO's John Fernandes and Eric Cornuel, will discuss the growing risks to quality management education, their potential impacts, and steps the Global Foundation for Management Education will take to assess these risks and identify preferred actions by its stakeholders. Participants will have the opportunity to provide input to, and assist in structuring, GFME's third major research project, commencing in early 2009.

  • John Fernandes, president and ceo, AACSB International

Student Initiatives - "Forming the Leaders of Tomorrow"
The current state of cross-institutional, cross-organizational affairs should be challenged against the demanding context of the world today. We need to rethink the foundation and the basis upon which we develop and utilize interactions with other organizations. The context of competition is not the one to secure competitive advantage
we need to compliment our potential with the one of other organizations across sectors in order to achieve another level of value-proposition to our stakeholders. IE and AIESEC are organizations that have been trying to align their efforts towards social impact, entering into collaboration which compliments each other's contribution.

13:3015:00 Plenary II: Global Textbook Projects
The Global Text Project is a multi-faceted educational endeavour. The prime goal is to create a free library of 1,000 electronic textbooks for university students in the developing world. The library will cover the range of topics typically encountered in a comprehensive university's undergraduate programs. There are two secondary goals. First, we are engaging students in the continuous improvement and globalization of texts through Student Quality Circles. Second, we are building a community of student volunteers to help with the production and marketing of books. In the process, students learn and create value for other students.

Plenary V: "The Trends and Needs of Companies Why it is Important and What is Pushing it above and Beyond?"
Two of IESE's Executive Education clients will share their vision with respect to what they think is important to consider when looking for a provider. What do they look for in a school? what do they see as the pros and cons to a consortium of executive education partners? Why would they choose to partner with one institution versus another? The session will explore their philosophy as far as programs being content relevant and with measurable results and what they feel are the important differences between open and custom programs.
