Michael Burchell

As vice president for Global Business Development
and senior consultant with The Great Place to Work® Institute, Inc., Michael
Burchell serves as a member of the senior management team responsible for the
institute’s overall strategy and management. He continues to consult with
clients including Samsung, Estee Lauder, and Novartis. Each year the Great Place
to Work® Institute, Inc. selects the “100 Best Companies to Work for in America”
and publishes this list in Fortune Magazine. The institute has amassed a sizable
body of research on how these companies create workplace environments that
leverage the talent and skill of their employees. During this session, Burchell
focuses on the business case for workplace development, the role of trust in
becoming a great place to work, and best practices of the organizations that
make the list.
Mike Muetzel
President

author Mike Muetzel addresses Generation X managers, employee retention, and
productivity in his book, They’re Not Aloof…Just Generation X: Unlock the
Mysteries to Today’s Human Capital Management. He is the only author in the
United States with a senior corporate background to specifically take on this
emerging topic. As an expert in changing traditional leadership paradigms, Muetzel has been featured as a contemporary management
resource by notable media such as the Associated Press, Bloomberg Television,
and The Boston Globe. Working as a management consultant, his clients have
included FedEx Freight, Motorola, Hilton, and Yamaha. He is a former member of
the faculty at Clayton State University, and a guest lecturer at Georgia State
University. During his session, Muetzel addresses the loyalty, turnover,
internal silos, declining employee productivity, and engagement challenges
facing organizations today.
Ross Smith

Microsoft Corporation
Ross Smith has worked for
Microsoft for nearly 18 years. He is one of the authors of “The Practical Guide
to Defect Prevention” and holds 5 software patents. Smith speaks regularly on
productivity games and was a guest poster for Google on the use of games in
assuring quality. His team’s game work was recently mentioned in The
Economist, in the upcoming book “Changing the Game: How Video Games are
Transforming the Future of Business,” and a case study entitled, “Game On:
Theory Y meets Generation Y” by the Management Innovation Lab and London School
of Business. His session, “Dude, where’s my boss? Deploying an Organizational
Strategy Through the Use of Productivity Games,” explores how gaming can improve
productivity among next-generation workers, and the impact of games and social
networking tools on management education and requisite skills for new managers.
