Tour Option 1:
HONOLULU’S HIDDEN TREASURES EXCURSION
Learn about Honolulu’s history and see an amazing
collection of rainforest and tropical plants on this professionally narrated
tour through Oahu’s world-renowned botanical gardens. Start the day with a visit
to Lolani Palace grounds, where you will marvel at Oahu’s largest banyan tree
while learning about the Hawaiian monarchy and the history of the only royal
palace in the United States. See the King Kamehameha statue, Hawaii State
Capital and historic Honolulu on the way to our next stop, Foster Botanical
Garden. Here your naturalist guide will highlight unique tropical plants,
including the “Bo Tree,” grown from a cutting of the original tree planted in
India 800 years ago by the first Dali Lama; cacao, pepper, cinnamon and allspice
trees; and the famous Foster orchid collection.
Next we visit several of Honolulu’s scenic hidden
waterfalls. One of the scenic waterfalls is misty Kapena falls, where you will
view ancient Hawaiian petroglyphs (rock carvings) near the bank of Alapena pool,
and learn the legend of Kaupe, the ancient guardian spirit that is said to
protect travelers at this unique place.
You will relax and enjoy unsurpassed panoramic views
of Windward Oahu, while learning about the famous battle of the Nu’uanu Pali
that secured King Kamehameha sovereignty over the Hawaiian Islands. At the Pali
lookout, you will view the dramatic Ko’olau Mountains and verdant rainforest,
learn about the unique history, legends, cultural sites, and Polynesian plant
species used in ancient times. We’ll pause to take in the view (and a
photograph) from this unique vantage point.
