Frequently Asked Questions About the Accreditation Standards

5. The standards say " diversity is a positive characteristic to be fostered, not a disadvantage to be reduced or minimized." How different can we be?

There surely is no single, or best, way to prepare graduates for careers in management and business. AACSB International wants to encourage innovation and experimentation in developing high quality educational programs. For accreditation, the key is quality.

Innovations should be done in the service of quality and clearly defined missions. Invoking the word "innovation" to rationalize a poorly funded or ill-conceived program will not convince a peer review team. Managing resources well toward the accomplishment of a thoughtfully determined mission will.

AACSB International accreditation standards are quite flexible in the construction of both content and delivery of education programs. Accreditable programs may deviate from the standards when quality is maintained or enhanced. Of course, programs that are atypical will require more explanation from the school so the peer review team will understand the goals and accomplishments of such programs.
